Happy October to you all! We’re still in the throes of our busiest season ever, and we are so grateful to our amazing staff for their time, talent, and amazing work. The reviews are coming in and our clients have been raving about every aspect of Chowgirls. Sales, service, and food have all received high praise. From summer camp weddings in Deerwood to events at our own Solar Arts Space, we’re so proud of our crew — they’ve rocked it all summer!
As for the Boss Ladies, we’re taking some time now to work on our cookbook, Killer Appetizers, which will be coming out in the Fall 2016 on Arsenal Pulp Press from Vancouver. We’re over the moon about this dream is come true and to share our recipes for appetizers and small plates!
Other recent excitement for us includes our recent feature in Entrepreneur magazine. We took a trip down memory lane to the early days of cooking in our own kitchens and catering for friends in 7 Tips from Entrepreneurs Who Kept Their Day Jobs While Starting Their Business. We still love to cook and thanks to our team, we’ve expanded our reach significantly over the past 11 years! Heidi enjoyed our recent cooking demo at the Cultivate Northeast Garden, and Amy continues to work on the True Food Chef Council and helped out with the Farm to School Community Barbecue in support of efforts to improve menus in the Minneapolis Public Schools.
At Solar Arts by Chowgirls, we helped throw an amazing modern Scandinavian-themed meal for backers of Hearten North magazine’s successful Kickstarter. (We can’t wait for this gorgeous party to be showcased in the print edition!). Our Solar Arts space also hosted the wonderful Midwest Pantry Local Food Poster Show, and we will be hosting the upcoming fundraiser for the Northeast Farmer’s Market Harvest Gala. This is one of our favorite annual events, we love it when we can celebrate friends, community, and abundance! Please consider joining us! Thursday October 8th: tickets via eventbrite. Looking ahead, mark you calendar for the Northern Grade artisan pop-up shop on October 31st and November 1st at Solar Arts by Chowgirls.
As the season shifts, we start thinking about the holidays. We’ve just posted our 2015 holiday menu on our website. We have a special offer for all of you: order from this menu exclusively for your upcoming parties by October 31st and we’ll throw in an Essential Dessert Bites platter for free!
In libation news, please take a gander at our seasonal cocktail menu, created with our pals at Bittercube. It's chock full of classic craft cocktails to round out a memorable event!
We look forward to the new season, and to working with wonderful clients like you.

PS. We've joined @ChowgirlsKillerKitchen on Instagram under the handle @ChowgirlsCatering, follow us and Solar Arts at @CGSolarArts!
We've had a wonderful month bringing food and fun to a number of weddings around the Twin Cities, plus celebrations for SpaceCrafting, Locus Architecture, The University of MN Raptor Center, LifeLink, Irish Titan, and feeding the hardworking folks of the Knight Foundation during their meetings at the Wellstone Neighborhood House.
Solar Arts by Chowgirls - Thriving
The events keep coming. NEMAA's Fall Fine Arts Show has come and gone, along with The Midwest Pantry Local Food Poster Show. On October 8th we'll be hosting the Fall Harvest Gala for the Northeast Farmers Market. At the end of October, the crafty pop-up market Northern Grade will be here. And in between we've got breakfast meetings, and weddings galore! For information about the space, please contact Eleni via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Producer Spotlight - Mississippi Mushrooms
Mississippi Mushrooms specializes in growing delicious and hard-to-find gourmet mushrooms. They source substrate materials (the soil or food for mushrooms) from businesses within the Twin Cities metro area! The materials are otherwise waste products (things like sawdust, coffee chaff, spent brewer’s grain) that would've ended up in a burner or the landfill. We've used their Lion's Mane and other varieties. Check out Herecium erinaceus in the photo!
Boss Lady Heidi serves on the board of the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market. The Harvest Gala, an annual event that celebrates the bounty of the harvest season, is one of her pet projects that she initiated four years ago. It's become the top fundraiser for NEFM and we're happy to host it at the Solar Arts Building! Please join in the fun if you're around. Dangerous Man volunteers will serving food made by lots of local restaurant and Chowgirls bartenders will be on hand to pour Norseman cocktails. Join in the fun on Thursday, October 8 from 7-9:30 pm.
We'll be helping out at the Nordeast Big River Brewfest on October 10. Proceeds benefit programming for Eastside Neighborhood Services, an organization that helps our community members by providing access to support for issues of family violence, housing, effective parenting, adolescent pregnancy, truancy and school performance, legal problems, mental health, divorce/separation, school readiness and literacy, employment and aging.
Chowgirls will also be supporting Family Voices of Minnesota 4th Annual Benefit on October 15th at Harriet Island Pavilion from 5:30 to 9:30 PM. Family Voices provides services and support to families with children who have complex health needs. Tickets are $85 and can be purchased on the Family Voices website.
